Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport – the world’s busiest – has decided to put on the world’s biggest bake sale to generate funds to build a new international terminal.

The airport has been frozen out of the bond markets caused by the current global financial crisis, said Ben “The Hammer” DeCosta. “Tough times call for out-of-the-box — the pastry box, that is – thinking,” he said. We’re hoping that our employees, vendors, concessionaires and our airlines will donate baked goods that we will sell at our check-in gates and security lines.”

Delta Air Lines – the airport’s biggest carrier – has already pledged 73,000 cupcakes, one from each employee, said DeCosta. “CEO Richard ‘The Merger’ Anderson even volunteered to bake the cupcakes himself,” he noted.

Not to be outdone, AirTran CEO Bob “Copycat” Fornaro said he would double Delta’s pledge, said DeCosta. “Bob even offered to throw in a percentage of the money he’s raking in from the new baggage fees,” he added.

The airport is optimistic it can raise at least $100 million from the sale, said De Consta.
